This lesson is inspired by the artwork of artist and professor, Jennifer Angus. The Paine describes her work:
Using exotic insects as her medium, Angus designs elaborate geometric patterns and narratives comprised of thousands of preserved specimens to explore themes of beauty, ornamentation, natural history collections, the relationship between humans and insects, and the important role insects play in ecosystems.
Through this lesson, students will learn about the parts of bugs, use shapes to create a painted insect or arachnids, understand the functions visual borders, and know how to create and use a stamp for printmaking.
