Students working on Calkins Informational writing unit have been learning about Teen Activism in order to flash draft an essay. One activist, William Kamkwamba from Malawi, noticed the struggle his village was having by not having electricity, especially during a drought. He designed a working windmill out of trash in order to generate power. Students in this unit learn the art of the design process. They study and create their own windmill blades and then test it for power using our generator and voltage meter.
