Hello Again!!
These are some introduction of the group! Enjoy!
Katie
My name is Katie Sperry and I am a freshman here at University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. I plan on majoring in Social Work with a minor in Spanish. I have always been very passionate about helping others and trying to get everyone involved in activities. I am very excited to be going on my first Alternative Spring Break Trip to Washington D.C.!
Aly
Hi! My name is Aly Theder and I am a sophomore Human Services major. I will buy anything with a tie-dye pattern and I am a passionate disciple of the FoodNetwork. I love to travel so I can experience new cities and cultures, so I am very excited to explore D.C. with this group. I am very grateful for this opportunity to work with the issues of hunger and homelessness so I can bring back what I learned to the Oshkosh community.
Jacob
My name is Jacob Rusch. I am in my last semester of grad school and I am in the Educational Leadership masters program at UWO. I currently have a graduate internship working with volunteerism on campus and hope to be able to work in a similar field when I finish my program. I decided to participate in the Alternative Spring Break program because I have become genuinely interested in volunteering, especially with the topic of Hunger and Homelessness. I currently work with the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry and would like to see what working with similar organizations in a place with greater need is like. I also love the Milwaukee Bucks.
Alison
Hi! My name is Alison Bridges and I am currently a Junior here at UW-Oshkosh. I am majoring in social work and minoring in criminal justice. Down the road I would like to see myself working in the mental health field in prisons or in the general health care field focusing on counseling. When I’m not working or in school I enjoy hanging out with friends and working out, especially swimming and running. I am hoping this spring break experience will help me grow as an individual, provide me with better insight to those who are experiencing hardships and social injustice, and lastly help me become better prepared in the roles and duties I have to carry out as a future social worker!
Yee
Hi you may call me Yee. I was born in California and raised in Appleton, Wisconsin. I am a social work student/intern, and I will be graduating with my BSW in May 2014. In fall 2014, I will be taking natural science courses and work my way towards a second bachelor’s, in Dietetics. As for additional information about me, I enjoy exercises and I see that as a great way to release stress and self-care. 🙂
Mithao
My name is Mithao Lee. I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh and I am majoring in Human Services. As a Human Services major, I hope to work with low-income families and people in poverty after graduation. I am excited to participate in Alternative Spring Break and be able to make a difference in someone’s life. This trip focuses on people in poverty and I believe it will give me a better understanding of those living in poverty. During this trip in Washington D.C., I am looking forward to volunteering and possibly interacting with a few people who are in poverty. I believe this will be a life changing experience and will definitely change my perspective on a lot of things. I am also looking forward to getting to know the people in my group more during this trip, as well as working and touring Washington D.C. with them. I hope that this trip will help me gain plenty of experiences that I can use and bring back with me to Wisconsin.
Maiyer
My name is Maiyer Lee. I was born in Appleton, WI and have lived there all my life. I am currently a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in ESL and Bilingual-Hmong. I always enjoy having company, especially children. I’m adventurous and love to travel and meet new people. Some of my biggest dreams in life are to teach children, write music, write bilingual children literature, and ultimately, make a difference in the lives of others.
Kati
Hi everyone! My name is Kati Hinds and I am this year’s Advisor for Washington DC. I am currently in the Professional Counseling Program at UW Oshkosh, with an emphasis in Student Affairs. As an Undergraduate student I was the student trip leader the very first year the trip went out, and so this trip especially, is very close to my heart. I am so excited to get to spend the week with these AMAZING students – they are all so funny, energetic and passionate about helping others! Thank you all for your support on this trip!
Abby
Hi my name is Abby McConnell. I’m currently a freshman at UWO. Originally I am from Woodstock,Illinois. I have volunteered in the past as I was apart of my Key Club in high school. I mostly worked directly with food drives and communal work. This is the first time I have gone out of state for volunteering, especially on such a big trip like this. I hope that this trip will help me broaden my horizons and see the bigger issues at hand. I am very appreciative to be apart of this great experience.

Everyone seems to be excited about the trip! Â Its really exciting since we are leaving tomorrow morning!!
