GPA Calculator

Use this GPA calculator to determine grade point average (GPA). It will also calculate repeats. Enter current GPA and desired grades and this calculator will display your predicted GPA.

How to calculate your GPA

Try this GPA Calculator or use the process below.

Each letter grade is worth the following grade points:

Steps:

  1. Locate your grade on the grid above.
  2. Multiply the Points for that grade by the number of credits for the course.
  3. Do this for each course you took.
  4. Add all these products together.
  5. Divide this number by the total number of attempted credits taken.

Example A:

Total Credits Earned: 16

Total Credits Attempted: 16

Total Grade Points: 51.02

Divide 51.02/16 = 3.19

Semester GPA: 3.19

Example B:

Total Grade Points: 30Total Credits Earned: 10

Divide 30/13= 2.31

Semester GPA: 2.31

How to calculate your cumulative GPA

Divide your TOTAL grade points by TOTAL credits attempted.

 Example

Grade Points

Fall Semester: 50

Spring Semester: 30

Credits Attempted

Fall Semester: 16

Spring Semester: 13

Using the examples above: 50 grade points & 16 credits attempted + 30 grade points & 13 credits attempted 80 grade points & 29 credits attempted

80 grade points / 29 credits attempted = 2.76 (cumulative grade point average)

Repeat Policy (Effective 2021) – The best grade awarded will be used in the computation of grade point averages and credit earned.

How to calculate your desired GPA
Get your Desired GPA.

Example

Total GPA Hours: 60

Current GPA: 3.3

Desired GPA: 3.4

To achieve a GPA of 3.4 given that you have attempted 60 credits and a current GPA of 3.3:

  • You need 10 credit hours at A to obtain a GPA of 3.4
  • You need 20 credit hours at A- to obtain a GPA of 3.4
GPA Calculator Tool

This tool is to help calculate current, overall GPA, as well as semester GPA as needed. It takes into account repeats, withdrawals, and transfer credits. it can also help project future GPA in advising appointments, or for students to use at home. This tool also takes into account completion rates, which is more relevant to SAP cases.

How It Works:

  • Staff/students manually enter in grades with corresponding credit amounts in the “Grade” and “Course Credits” columns, respectively. *Currently working on formatting to copy/paste.
  • If you so wish, you can also add the name of the courses to the “Course Title” column.
  • As you enter this information, the blue “GPA Value,” “Quality Points,” and “Credits” columns will automatically populate and perform the appropriate calculations. The results of these calculations will be shown in the red boxes labeled “Credits Attempted,” “Credits Earned,” “GPA,” “ICR,” “Quality Points,” and “Credits Attempted (GPA).”
  • If a student attempts, repeats, or withdraws (“W”) from a course, you are to place the credit amounts ONLY in the green “Repeat/Attempt/Withdraw” column. This takes into account that the student has repeated/attempted/withdrawn from a course, which still counts toward their credits attempted, but does NOT affect GPA. (See SAP information for further explanation.) Once the student receives a grade for a repeated course, add it to the blue columns as a separate entry, while still keeping the credit amount in the green column as well.
  • If a student has transfer credit, or a course listed as “S” or “P”, place those credit amounts in the purple “Transfer” column. This again counts only their credits attempted, but does NOT affect GPA.
