WRST continues its decades-long tradition of being a source for music unavailable on other radio outlets in the Oshkosh area and regards this policy as a defining characteristic of the station. WRST offers a variety of musical forms during the program week with a unified “strip” format on weekdays and specialty programs on weekends.
On weekday afternoons, WRST offers jazz, a genre that has been a part of the program schedule since the station debuted in 1966.
On weekday evenings, alternative rock is offered. The early evening program on weekdays is called The Shuffle and is dedicated to the top 100 albums on the college charts. The late evening and post-midnight hours are home to more rock music genres, with care being taken to adhere to the station’s alternative standards.
On weekends, programs of folk, bluegrass, blues, electronic and other eclectic formats are offered.
All music programs are hosted by UWO students from a variety of majors. Students are in charge of the music on the station: contacting labels, auditioning new releases, reporting to trade magazines and maintaining the WRST music library.
