SPRING 2014 SCHEDULE FORTHCOMING
Yoga: led by Emily
Starting February 12th
Empowering Women: For Female Faculty and Staff at UW Oshkosh
(during term time, start date February 11 , 2013)
Co-facilitated by Elena Petrova, Ph.D. and M. Geneva Murray, Ph.D.
The Empowering Women group is a unique support group for female faculty and staff at UW Oshkosh. The Women’s Center and Counseling Center hope to connect with women who would like to support one another as we face successes and adversity: working in a male dominated office, care-taking roles: balancing self-care and care for others, navigating relationships with male and female colleagues, body positivity, caring for our mental and physical health, and being assertive in both one’s personal and professional life. The goal of the co-facilitators of this group is to bring to campus an inclusive environment for women where we can foster an open dialogue about the issues group participants find to be most important.
While this is an open group, it is limited to female staff and faculty at UW Oshkosh. Feel free to join us every week, or as your schedule allows. There is no requirement to contact us prior to attending the group; however, if you have any questions or concerns please contact Elena Petrova, Ph.D. at firstname.lastname@example.org
Relationship Support Group
Mondays 10.30-11.30am (during term time)
Facilitated by Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc.
This support group is for current female students at UW Oshkosh who have experience domestic or dating violence or are concerned about their relationship with their partner. Facilitated by Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, this support group will be overseen by one of their advocates and will address issues of physical and emotional abuse, safety planning and healthy coping strategies. If you have any questions, please contact the Women's Center at email@example.com
If you know someone who you think may be being abused or in an unhealthy relationship, the Women's Center will have an advocate from Christine Ann available on Mondays from 10-10.30am to answer questions. If the Relationship Support Group is not for you, we also offer an Empowering Women discussion group for our UW Oshkosh female-identified staff and faculty Wednesdays Noon-1pm during term time (we hope to expand this to students in Spring 2014).
Female Veteran Discussion Network
Bi-weekly on Thursdays from noon to 1:00pm at the Women's Center
Start date: February 13th.
Female Veteran Conversation Network is a group designed for those females who have experienced military life (and dependent spouses who are looking for somewhere to discuss their own issues). This group is open to the public. Our focus is to learn what types of issues affect female veterans on campus and in the surrounding community. We would like to create a platform for implementing change. As part of this group we are creating a safe space to discuss the different aspects that affect us: filing disability claims, adjusting to life after deployment, reintegrating ourselves into the community, and finding our own identity after discharge are just a few of the things we can discuss. There will be several resources on hand; however, the function of this group is a discussion network, not necessarily a support group. If you do need a support group, there will be information available to get you to the outside resources that can assist you within the community. We will meet on bi-weekly on Thursdays (noon to 1pm) throughout the semester starting on September 12, 2013. There is no childcare available for these meetings.
