Why You Should Participate in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Oshkosh

From the Advance Titan:

'According to Vice President of Membership Development for the Inter-Fraternity Council Tyler Volkert, although Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is new to UWO, it is a pre-existing international campaign against sexual violence.

“By signing up for this walk, men, who are the target audience to participate, are pledging to help bring an end to gendered violence, sexual assault and rape,” Volkert said. “What started out as a small group of men daring to totter around a park has grown to become a worldwide movement with tens of thousands of men raising millions of dollars for local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and other sexualized violence education, prevention and remediation program.”'

Women's Center and Diversity and Inclusion Programs film series included 'Miss Representation'

From the Advance Titan article:

'“I think that there is a cultural perception that things are getting better,” [Dr. Caryn] Murphy said. “A film like this asks you to question that premise that more outlets doesn’t necessarily mean better representation.”'

Panels on Popular Culture: Let's Talk Roller Derby!

From the Advance Titan article:

'“It is important for us to think critically about popular culture,” Geneva Murray, director of the Women’s Center, said. “Roller derby, for example, may be seen as empowering for women. However, how does the media represent roller derby? Who is included in popular presentations of the sport? These panels on popular culture help us to understand the role of popular culture in affirming, changing, transforming gender stereotypes - sometimes in very contradictory ways.”'
