Letter from the Women's Center Director

We have an exciting semester planned at the Women’s Center and I hope that you can join us for our various events. We are proud to continue our film series, aptly renamed to feminist*film series,(cosponsored by Diversity and Inclusion Programs), panels on popular culture, Global Google Hangoutsempowering children’s story hour, and Walk a Mile in Her Shoes ® Oshkosh. We have a full schedule for the spring, with exciting speakers – including a performance entitled ‘They Call Me Q!’ by Qurrat Ann Kadwani and a presentation by Anita Sarkeesian of Feminist Frequency fame.

We are also excited to continue partnering with national organizations and local community groups to bring $tart $mart Salary Negotiation workshops to the UW Campus, and, a first for us this year, Elect Her training! As part of Elect Her, students will be able to hear from the youngest member of the Wisconsin Assembly, Representative Shankland, and the former communications person for Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, Danielle Hagan. A female-identified student who attends Elect Her may also be eligible for a scholarship to attend the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders, courtesy of the Office of the Chancellor, the Oshkosh AAUW branch and the Women's Center.Click here for information on how to apply.

We are eager to work with others on campus to utilize the Women’s Center as your place – where you can connect, serve and lead on campus and in the community.

We are continuing to grow as a resource for USP instructors, campus groups and departments, and individuals on campus and in the community. We search out the needs of the campus based on what we hear from our partnerships, and provide programming and support to effectively meet those needs. We are very proud of our collaborative work on campus.

Please take the opportunity to visit the Women’s Center and tell us what we can do to support you. We serve students, faculty and staff, as well as community members, in working towards gender equity. We can assist you with educational program development related to our mission, and visit your class or organization to talk about the services provided by the Women's Center.

The Women's Center is your place and we look forward to meeting you soon!

M. Geneva Murray, PhD

Women's Center Director
