Student Reviews of the Women's Center

The Women’s Center at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, in my opinion, is one of the most important departments on campus. The Women’s Center’s programming is impeccable and offers a wide variety of programs, free of charge, for both students of UWO and individuals in the surrounding community. Unlike other spaces, I feel that the Women’s Center truly tries to incorporate a vast array of programming throughout the semester, not focusing on one solitary issue but staying modern and up to speed with current events. The Center works diligently to provide a variety of programming from Google Hangouts with activists around the globe, panels on popular culture, or showing different films addressing a variety of women’s issues. What is truly incredible about the Women’s Center is that the staff has been phenomenal about networking with other campus organizations and groups in order to effectively promote and plan events. While I have only been attending the Women’s Center for a few years, attending fantastic events (such as Walk a Mile in Her Shoes this past spring) have illustrated the importance of women’s centers on college campuses. Women’s centers offer a safe space for students to work, meet, and share ideas in world that is sometimes unwilling to accommodate diverse opinions. In addition to superb programming and networking, the staff at the Center are always pleasant and incredibly friendly and they try their hardest to accommodate the needs of each visitor. The comfortable space of the Women’s Center is a place where any individual will always feel welcomed and important.

I was overjoyed to be the recipient of a very generous scholarship from the Women’s Center this past fall. I look forward to using the scholarship to attend conferences around the state that I otherwise would not be able to afford.

Emily Weiss, Fall 2013 Intern

Throughout my time at UW-Oshkosh I have found the Women's Center to be one of the warmest and most accepting places on campus. The Center really does everything it can for the Campus Community, the whole community both women and men, be it relevant programming, an amazing library, or just a warm cup of tea on a cold day. The unsung heroes of the Women's Center are the amazing staff. They are always willing to sit down and chat with you, answer your questions or help you find answers.
I was fortunate to receive a scholarship from the Women's Center this academic year. being a student who pays for college myself, this scholarship eases my mind - and my work schedule for the semester. The Women's Center is truly, a diamond in the rough.

The Women's Center is a place where students, staff, faculty and the community can gather to study, work and build connections with one another. The following tables are not representative of attendance at our events, but demonstrate the current use of the Women's Center as a space for gatherings. As our programming and outreach continues to grow, we see an increase in visitation - with both first time visitors to the Center, and in repeat visitation. Join our growing numbers and come to the Women's Center today!
