Rensing Profile

Susan Rensing is Assistant Professor of Women’s Studies and History at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.  She received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison, and she has a Ph.D. in the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine from the University of Minnesota.  Her research interests are in women’s history, science in American culture, and Progressive Era reform.  She is currently working on a book project that analyzes how the science of eugenics was used to re-conceptualize romantic love, reproduction, and the institution of marriage in the early 20th century and how resistance to these changes motivated a backlash to first-wave feminism in America.  Since coming to UWO, she has taught Introduction to Women’s Studies, Images of Women, Feminist Bioethics, and Women, Race, and Class, as well as courses in U.S. women’s history, African-American history, and U.S. social and intellectual history.

In her free time, she likes to play guitar, go hiking & kayaking, and see live music.  Her current favorite tv shows are 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, and Modern Family.   Favorite musical artists and bands include Jenny Lewis, Kathleen Edwards, The Gossip, The Avett Brothers, and the Heartless Bastards.
