Teachers Encouraging Women in Science Conference (OWWSTE Project)

Opportunities for Wisconsin Women in Science, Technology and Engineering (OWWSTE) is a training program for secondary teachers and counselors in Wisconsin to increase awareness of gender bias in science and technology education, and to introduce educators to regional and national programs available to promising female students in science, technology and engineering. OWWSTE will provide teacher and counselor leaders with media (including an inspirational and informational video), instructional tools, and training that they can share with peers in their districts during in-service training sessions or at summer academies.
In return for three graduate credits, teacher leaders will train others in their school system and community about gender issues that still exist in the science classroom and student biases toward science-related fields. Finally, teachers will collect data about students' academic and occupational interests to help in planning of future state and national programs.
