Badger Mining family members will focus on their structure and philosophy, and the history of the family business. You will hear about their structure with co-leaders and family member involvement, how they make decisions, their family hiring practices, how they work together and what they are doing about the needs of the fourth generation.
Badger Mining has been working diligently for more than twelve years on the development of their structure and management practices to ensure the continued health and growth of their business. You will find their story interesting and helpful as you develop long-range strategies for your business.
Ivan Lansberg, Ph.D, a noted family business consultant, says that a change in leadership in a family business frequently sows the seeds for an entirely new family business structure. A business may be unprepared for the change unless planning includes consideration of the management structure. Three primary family business structures are currently identified in the family business area: owner-managed, sibling partnerships and cousin consortiums.
This program is an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about a management structure that may be right for your evolving family business now and/or in the future. You will be encouraged to ask questions and explore the issues with members of the management team.
Roundtable discussions following the presentation will consider issues and practices presented in the Badger Mining presentation. During the discussions, Badger Mining family members will be available to answer questions and to discuss specific practices.

The Forum provided program materials which included sample agendas, retreat guidelines and materials from David Namowicz. We hope that members find the materials useful and will contact the Forum for any additional information they need.
This handbook has three sections: 1) broad considerations involved in succession how to set a strategy and plan the process, how to prepare the family for what will unfold, and how to prepare the business for the changes to come, 2) the succession process how to develop potential successors, who to choose, how to transfer ownership and control, how a successor takes charge, how the owner can manage to let go, and 3) estate planning how to structure an estate plan, minimize estate taxes, and avoid the many traps and schemes that can compromise your family's wealth.
A complete listing of Forum resources will be sent to you shortly.
