Saturday, Feb. 6th Seminar at Outagamie Museum
Seminar No. 5 is scheduled to be held at the Outagamie Museum downtown Appleton, which is part of the Fox Valley Historical Society. Activities will include a tour of the Harry Houdini exhibit, tour of the local sports theme exhibit currently being featured, and a presentation by a guests speaker on the 1920s as the Age of Celebrities and Consumerism. Activities will run from 9:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.
History Assessment & Student Interest Inventory
A reminder to those of you who received my request in late September: Please make arrangements to administer the "pre-test" U.S. History Assessment and Student Interest Inventory to students in classes that feature U.S. history topics, if you haven't already done so. Both instruments should be administered as "post-tests" next May (or in January, if the course is one semester long). I sent you the URL link for the Assessments and Interest Inventory. The URL links can also be found in the "WASAH Policies and Requirements" Section of this Plone site. (Year 2 participants are listed below in the body of this message.)
December 12th Seminar at CESA 7
The 3rd WASAH Seminar is scheduled for Saturday, December 12th at the CESA 7 training room, located at 595 Baeten Road on the south side of Green Bay. The seminar will start at 9 a.m. and run until approximately 12:15 p.m. The first portion of the seminar will feature a discussion of the David Kennedy book "Freedom from Fear." The assigned reading for that discussion are Chs. 6-12 (pp. 160-380). A reading guide with study questions has been posted within the "2009-10 Workshop & Seminar Materials" Section of this Plone site. The second portion of the seminar will feature a presentation by UW Oshkosh historian Tom Rowland on how the Great Depression impacted the Oshkosh area. Dr. Rowland is the author of "Decade of Despair: Winnebago County during the Great Depression."
Nov. 11th Seminar at UW Oshkosh Archives
A reminder that our 2nd WASAH Seminar is scheduled to occur on Wednesday, November 11th, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Activities will take place at the Forrest Polk Library on the UW Oshkosh campus, including an opportunity for hands-on work with primary documents. Jeff Pickron will also lead an exercise on exploring and reviewing primary documents that relate to Black Thursday and other historical periods. We will all meet at the front lobby of Polk Library at 6 p.m., then proceed to Room 202 on the 2nd Floor for a short orientation, before breaking off into different groups and activities.
