Heeding the Call
Three months before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Jon Jandrin of Green Bay joined the United States Marines Corps. He was 17 and needed his parents to sign off on his decision.
My mother, I was always real close to her growing up, her thought was, “This is my son. Why does he want to do this?” She wouldn’t sign the paper work. She said, “I’m not going to sign it. I’m not going to sign it.” I told her, “Well you can sign it now, or you can not sign it, and when I’m 18, I’ll do it without you.” My mom signed the papers…
