My grandfather served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, and my stepdad, Capt. Rob Kubesh, is a retired member of the Air Force. My childhood was spent on bases across the country for the 16 years he’s been in the Air Force. I’ve always grown up on base. Being around the military and seeing the family that they all are just made me feel more comfortable there than anywhere else. The final decision for me came my senior year of high school. I decided to join the ROTC program because my stepdad and I had a long chat about what I was going to do with my life. I wanted to be a part of the military, but I wanted to go to school first to get my degree.
