March 8, 2006: Dorothy Leeds

  • Dorothy Leeds performed her one-woman production of “Good Lessons from Bad Women in History” in March. Her choice of women to re-enact was perfect for Women’s History Month.  To draw people in, she became women we all recognize: Eve, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Mae West.  To introduce us to women in history we might not know, she became Mrs. Machine Gun Kelly, Emperor Wu, Elizabeth Freeman, and Anne Bonney.  In each rendition, Leeds found an element in the “badness” of the woman that made us think about how we could use that kind of courage in our own lives.
