Podcasting and Lecture Capture Using Relay and Kaltura
This fall, course video is evolving to be more flexible and easier to use than ever before.
Relay allows simple recording from Windows, Mac, or iOS devices and takes just a few clicks and less than a minute to implement in class. Free recording software allows podcast creation from your home or office computer.
Kaltura allows easy distribution; a player can be embedded in your D2L homepage, videos will automatically appear as they are added, or you can insert videos into your D2L content in just a few seconds. Recordings can also be sent almost anywhere.
Learn how to use the new systems for recording and distributing video on campus. Attendees will learn about changes to the podcasting systems and be given a demonstration of the use of both Relay and Kaltura. This course is appropriate for veteran podcasters and instructors who are interested in starting, or just curious about what is available on campus.
Lecture Capture and iTunesU Course Management
There are enough new features and information presented in this 1 hour workshop to warrant attendance even if you have been podcasting for years!
Podcast Capture allows instructors to easily record and upload the following, from a Mac: PowerPoints, web cam video, and audio from lectures, with very little additional time. The Podcast Capture web interface allows instructors to upload materials generated on any platform to the system. Podcast Capture also automates the upload of the finished files to iTunes and/or a blog. iTunes allows students to easily subscribe to and download captured course lectures and other content for review, at their convenience.
Attendees of the workshop will learn to: capture live lectures, automatically upload captured lectures to iTunesU and/or a blog, and manually upload prerecorded materials to the capture system. Attendees will also learn to manage their iTunesU presence, which includes: renaming, deleting, and organizing files, adding course descriptions and other course meta data, adding category classifications to make their content easier to find by those searching iTunes, manage their podcast blog, and integrate their recordings into D2L's content structure.
Wirecast will also be demoed. Wirecast allows instructors to self-produce professional looking, pre-recorded materials from the Instructional Video Services studio.
Classroom Recording and iTunesU for instructors using Mac OSX
This workshop will teach users how to use Lecture recording systems on Mac OSX to record thier course audio and computer screen content, then submit the recording to iTunes. Instructors will also learn how to manage their courses in iTunes, including changing the course image, adding description and instructor information, uploading, moving and deleting recordings, and creating new tabs.
Desktop Video and Audioconferencing
Desktop applications have made video and audio conferencing easily accessible for instructor to student communications as well as for bringing experts and guest speakers in to interact with your class. This workshop will go through what's needed on both ends of the conversation. We will look at Skype for one to one video calls, and multiple site audio calls, and Tokbox for multiple site video calls. ( All classroom computers will include cameras and Skype will be installed in all classrooms in Fall 2010.)
Recording Audio and Podcasting
We'll use the free open-source program Audacity to record and edit
audio, mix multitrack projects, and export to the MP3 format. Also
covered will be options for placing files on the web for download, and
for recording in the classroom.
Scanning & Digital Imaging
This workshop will deal with using computerized pictures. Covers the basics of choosing resolution and color depth for various applications, resizing, improving exposure and color balance, retouching, scanning of flat copy and slides, digital cameras, video and screen capture, converting object oriented graphics for web use and advantages and disadvantages of various file formats.
