What a golden treasure this interview is with a woman that needs to be honored for her accomplishments. 105 years old, WOW! God Bless her and I wish I could sit in a room with her all day and listen to her stories of yesteryears.

So unfortunate the "Mr or Mrs Mouse" had to follow such a nice comment with the comments on what is perceived as the state of education today.

I was married to an excellent elementary teacher. I have a daughter in law who is a very diligent junior high school science teacher. I have a granddaughter who is attending WIU preparing for a career in Elementary Special Education.

Five grand children are now in kindergarten or elementary grades in Dunlap and Normal IL and Buda TX. I have found they have had nothing but very caring and committed teachers---both male and female.

So, the legacy of Harriet and her educators lives on quite well today.

Don Burdick's Voice and Diction class was unforgettable. As much as we envied his gorgeous baritone voice, we learned from Don not only how to best use our own voices, but how to enunciate properly. Back in 1968, when I was in Don's "V and D" class, UW-O was undergoing a period of huge enrollment expansion, and Don's classroom was in some God-forsaken shed on the southeast corner of campus. But his presence and expertise lit up that shopworn classroom as though it were some famous European palace. It's been 45 years since I was in Don's class, but he left me with lessons I remembered and used during my entire broadcasting career. Rest in peace, Don. You were a great teacher.
