Graduating senior Tiffany J. Gerrits, of Neenah, Wis., was selected class speaker for the December 2008 University of Wisconsin Oshkosh commencement ceremony. She will give her speech at the ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13.

Nearly 1,000 undergraduates and graduates will be honored at morning and afternoon commencement ceremonies at Kolf Sports Center, 785 High Ave.

Gerrits will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. She will speak about the journey that college is and about the path that lies before graduates.

“College is a huge hurdle to get through, but there are many more hurdles down the road,” Gerrits said. “I know that we will all move on to do great things.”

As a student, Gerrits was involved in a variety of activities. She was vice president of the Oshkosh Student Nurses Association and is an active member of the Wisconsin Student Nurses Association and the National Student Nurses Association.  The recipient of three scholarships, Gerrits was on the dean’s list three semesters and on the University Honor Roll four semesters.

In her free time, Gerrits volunteered at the Christine Ann Center, rang bells for the Salvation Army and participated in Breast Cancer Awareness walks.
