The Alliant Energy Foundation has given UW Oshkosh $1,500 for the Wisconsin Youth Leadership Academy. Assistance in getting the grant came from the UW Oshkosh Foundation. Chris DeIuliis, continuing education and extension, is the project director.

UW Oshkosh senior cornerback Nate Heard played for the Team Stars & Stripes in the 2010 Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) on Dec. 18, in Toluca, Mexico. The team consisted of 41 seniors from different NCAA Division III schools, but Heard was the only player from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Mexican team was formed out of a conference of public schools into the CONADEIP League. The game resulted in a victory for Team Stars and Stripes by 48-7.

Emmanuel Jean Francois, human service and educational leadership, has written a recently-released book on global education. The 352-page book, “Global Education on Trial by U.S. College Professors,” explores the subject with viewpoints from U.S. professors.

, Reading Study Center, will attend the On Course National Conference in Long Beach, Calif., March 31-April 2.  On Course provides educators with techniques to improve student learning and retention rates with workshops and other resources.

UW Oshkosh has received $10,000 from Head Start Body Play Space Grants for Shawano and Seymour Head Start Centers. Cathy Arentsen, UW Oshkosh Head Start, is the project director.

UW Oshkosh has received $25,936 from the Wisconsin Coastal Management System as part of a larger collaborative project with the WI Geological and Natural History Survey entitled “Monitoring Groundwater Inflow to the Mink River Estuary, Door County, WI”. Maureen Muldoon, geology, is project director.

Alumnus Elizabeth Whalley has been appointed as the director of Undergraduate Academic Advising at UW Oshkosh. Whalley, who has previously served as interim director and as associate director of the Undergraduate Academic Advising, will be responsible for all areas of the department as well as the office of Undergraduate Advising Resource Center.

The UW Oshkosh women’s soccer team received the National Soccer Coaches Association of American Gold Team Ethics Award for completing their season with no red or yellow cards. The UW Oshkosh women’s team was one of six teams to receive the award.


The following UW Oshkosh staff members have received support through the Faculty Development Program:

Jim Schlinsog, Dean of Students Office, will attend the 5th Annual Management Institutes Association on Higher Education and Disability Conference in Atlanta, Ga., in February. The week-long annual AHEAD Conference features networking, training, and information sharing for professionals in education and disabilities.

John Johnsen, kinesiology, will attend the 2011 Athletic Training Educator’s Conference in Washington, D.C., in February of 2011. The conference will include breakout sessions, exhibits and the Distinguished Athletic Training Educator Luncheon.

Maccabee Levine, Polk Library, will attend the Code4Lib Conference in Bloomington, Ind. in February. The conference targets members of the library community and will feature new software development as well as experts from library and information science.
