The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh has appointed Elizabeth Whalley Director of Undergraduate Academic Advising.

Whalley has a strong history and experience with UW Oshkosh, previously serving as Interim Director during the search for the permanent position and as Associate Director of Undergraduate Academic Advising.

Whalley will help direct the campus advising program and lead the office of Undergraduate Advising Resource Center (UARC), under the supervision of Perry Rettig, Ph.D., Associate Vice Chancellor, Faculty and Academic Staff Affairs. In the new post, she will also “be responsible for all aspects of campus undergraduate academic advising and the UARC, including operational, personnel, financial planning and budget management, advising students, and developing effective working relationships with students, faculty/staff across campus. The Director will serve as a resource for advising policies and practices across campus.”

“Liz brings a wealth of experience from the university to her current position and enjoys the support of the staff in the UARC as well as across the campus,” Rettig said.“Liz has an innate ability to work with people in a very collaborative fashion, and she has a great working knowledge of the TIM (Total Intake Model) for faculty advising. We’re delighted to have her continue on as the director.”

Whalley is the 2008 recipient of the Wisconsin Academic Advising Association Advising Excellence Award.

“The opportunities ahead are to continue improving the advising to help the campus meet its growth agenda goals,” Whalley said. “… We think that the kinds of relationships we can develop with students are critical to them connecting with the university and them wanting to stay here and reach their goals.”

She is a UW Oshkosh alumnus, earning a Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in counseling. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from UW Oshkosh, majoring in psychology.

During the last 10 years, Whalley has served on multiple UW Oshkosh search and screen committees has been a member of UW Oshkosh’s Gender Equity Council since 2009 and was a member of Elmwood Renovation Project and Comprehensive Student Development Compact advisory committees.
