All University of Wisconsin Oshkosh students are invited to attend a meeting of the Society of Professional Journalists student chapter on Thursday, Nov. 18, where the Chilton Times-Journal Publisher Jim Moran will be speaking.

The meeting will be held in Clow 150 at 5:30 p.m., during which time guests can enjoy pizza and listen to Moran speak about his experiences in journalism.

The Chilton Times-Journal is a weekly newspaper covering Calumet County, and the Scene newspaper, a monthly alternative newspaper distributed from Green Bay to Oshkosh.

Prior to purchasing the newspapers, Moran worked at The Post-Crescent, The Oshkosh Northwestern, The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and Fox Cities Newspapers. He has worked as publisher, advertising manager, circulation manager and in marketing. His background includes working at dailies, weeklies, monthlies and niche publications.

He will be talking about what it is like to work at the different publications and what types of tasks one would be expected to complete as an editor, publisher or reporter. He will also discuss some of the ethics, decision-making and problem-solving skills one needs to become a successful journalist.
