Harley-Davidson owners and enthusiasts already are revving up to take center stage at Homecoming 2008 on Saturday, Oct. 18.

An alumni reception at Open Road Harley-Davidson in Fond du Lac May 1 will allow area H-D enthusiasts to meet one another, network and even plan for motorcycle-related activities during Homecoming 2008.

The Fond du Lac alumni reception, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., will be hosted by Open Road H-D franchise president Pete Johnson, ’89 and ’93 MBA, vice president Lori Thiel, and fellow UW Oshkosh alumni who live and work in the Fond du Lac area.

Guests will enjoy complimentary refreshments, hors d’oeuvres and a chance to win two tickets to the 105th Harley-Davidson Anniversary Celebration.

How the H-D theme came about

A recent trip to Harley-Davidson Motor Company’s headquarters in Milwaukee to visit 2007 Outstanding Young Alumni Award recipient Laura Denissen Scherr, ’99, marketing project manager, helped inspire a Harley-Davidson based theme for this year’s Homecoming. Several UW Oshkosh alumni are employed by Harley-Davidson and many others are H-D owners and enthusiasts.

All motorcycle owners and enthusiasts are invited to ride in the Homecoming parade or watch it. All makes, models, and two-wheelers are welcome, including scooters and bicycles.

In true style, this year’s Tent City pre-game celebration will feature plenty of hog — barbecued pork, that is. A chili cook-off featuring UW Oshkosh administration is also in the works. Live music will be provided by Milwaukee band Old Mil, which features several UW Oshkosh alumni.

Contact your UW Oshkosh friends now and make plans to reunite at this year’s event. If you’d like to be involved, please e-mail alumni@uwosh.edu or visit www.homecoming.uwosh.edu/alumni.php.
