University of Wisconsin Oshkosh defender Steffanie Nagan (Sr., Kaukauna) has received first-team honors on the 2010 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Women’s Soccer Squad.

Nagan was voted to the 14-member College Division first team by sports information directors in the states of Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin and the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario. She now has the opportunity to be named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America squad, which will be released later this month.

Nagan, who owns a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a broadfield natural science major, was a third-team academic all-district selection a year ago. The six-time UW Oshkosh Dean’s List member is an active participant in the Wisconsin Education Association, UW Oshkosh Honors Program and the National Audubon Society.

Nagan started all 18 matches that she played in this season. Her performance in the defensive backfield helped the Titans register six shutouts and a 1.47 goals against average. UWO won six of its last eight matches to end the season with a 9-8-1 record.

Nagan played in 70 matches, including 27 as a starter, during her four-year UW Oshkosh career. Nagan’s lone goal came during the Titans’ 8-0 victory over Lawrence University in 2007.

The WIAC had five other players secure academic all-district honors, including midfielder Carlin Bunting of UW-River Falls as a first-team selection. Named to the second team were goalkeeper Elizabeth Hunter of UW-Stevens Point, forward Rachel Nerison of UW-Eau Claire and defender Kelsey Strohm of UW-Whitewater. Chosen to the third team was defender Megan Hillesheim of UW-Eau Claire.

Kennan Timm, athletic department, submitted this announcement. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to contribute calendar items, campus announcements and other good news to UW Oshkosh Today.
