The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Office of Continuing Education and Extension announces a new workshop for parents, teachers, social workers and other caregivers for individuals with autism.

The one-day workshop, held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Nov. 11, will give educators and caregivers a unique look into the mind of someone with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and will offer an approach to work with these individuals more effectively.

The workshop presenter, Dr. Patrick Suglia, offers a unique perspective on relating to individuals with autism, as he himself has an ASD. Suglia will discuss disorder definitions, theories of the causes, and medical and alternative treatment options.

This course puts special emphasis on the unique social experiences of someone with autism, based on the book “The Unwritten Rules of Social Relationships.”

The learning objectives of this workshop are to understand the thought process of an individual with an ASD; to have a better understanding of ASDs; and to learn about specific treatments, therapies and resources.
