A longtime University of Wisconsin employee passed away March 11 at the age of 78.

Roger A. Westphal worked for UW Oshkosh’s Career Planning and Placement office from 1970 to 1995. According to an obituary published in The (Oshkosh) Northwestern, “To help the countless number of students that ventured in and out of his office was a privilege that would never tire him.”

Westphal received a BBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MSE in guidance and counseling at UW Oshkosh.

Prior to working at the University, he served in the U.S. Army and later was employed with the State of Wisconsin Banking Commission and then with the personnel office at Aid Association for Lutherans (Thrivent).

Westphal is survived by his wife Jane, son Bradley (Dawn) and daughters Christine Augsburger, Susan (Greg) Vande Sande and Jennifer Marty.
