Top alumni award recipients bring expertise to campus

When the 2017 recipients of University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Alumni Association awards return to campus this week to be honored as part of Homecoming 2017, they’ll also be giving back to the campus community in classroom presentations and discussions.

The Alumni Awards Celebration will be held Friday, Oct. 6 at the Alumni Welcome and Conference Center.  The event will be live streamed, beginning at approximately 6:45 p.m.

“We are excited to welcome 10 extraordinary alumni back to campus during Homecoming weekend to receive alumni awards,” said Alumni Director Christine Gantner. “While they are here, the recipients will be engaging with faculty, staff and students across disciplines to share their expertise and give back to their alma mater. This is an amazing opportunity for our campus community to meet these talented alumni.”

The alumni will be speaking with students in biology, business, education, geology, music and nursing classes, among others.

For example, alumni Dawn (Marrier) Auclair ’77, a hospital coordinator with Mercy Medical/Ascension Health; and Jane (Barta) Vesel ’85 and ’14 DNP, a senior nurse-midwife at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, will observe a nursing simulation Friday afternoon.

Alumnus Jamie Pollard ’87, a former student-athlete and business administration grad who serves as the director of athletics at Iowa State University, will spend the lunch hour with  UWO’s Athletic Department staff.

Radio TV Film graduate Brenda Lee Lau ’83, of Venice, California, will join two other alumni from the department at noon on Friday in presenting Pro Perspectives: A Dialogue with Media Insiders. The will share their perspectives on making the leap to the professional world and the current state of the industry and offer their advice on internships and job hunting.

In addition, Lau will give a presentation on “Hollywood Entertainment Marketing to the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of the American Marketing Association on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. in UWO’s Alumni Welcome and Conference Center.
