Nearly 400 University of Wisconsin Oshkosh employees who have earned degrees from UWO are invited to a celebration in their honor Thursday, Sept. 2, at Pollock Alumni House.

“We want to thank these dedicated alumni-employees who make up almost 25 percent of the UW Oshkosh workforce at our Titan-Employee Appreciation Reception,” said UW Oshkosh Alumni Director Christine Gantner.  “Our Titan-alumni are doubly invested in UW Oshkosh’s current and future success.”

Chancellor Richard H. Wells will offer his gratitude to alumni-employees like Dawn Detlaff for their immeasurable contributions to UWO at the reception, which will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

“I wouldn’t work any place else,” said Detlaff, the University’s head custodial supervisor.

When Detlaff graduated from high school, she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do next. She began working at UWO in 1987 and was soon encouraged to further her education. She worked full-time and took weekend classes, earning a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies in 2000 and a master’s degree in experimental psychology in 2003.

“Working here has afforded me more opportunities than I could ever imagine,” Detlaff said.

The event will include a drawing for prizes and a special gift to help Titan-employees show their pride throughout the year. Light refreshments and samples of Culver’s Titan Crunch frozen custard will be served.
