An area university is celebrating an updated academic complex Friday.

Officials at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh came together to dedicate the new and improved research facilities in the Clow complex.

The center will be used by students in the College of Nursing and the College of Letters and Science.

The first floor of the complex has different research labs and a cafe for guests.

The second floor has interactive classrooms and offices.

University officials say the goal was to create a modern space for hands-on learning.

"We have to have first class academic spaces to have first class academic programs. So this is really going to help propel both the College of Nursing, and those departments and the College of Letters and Science because of the functionality of the space we've created," said UW-Oshkosh Chancellor, Andrew Leavitt.

University officials say the construction of the new facilities took around two years to complete.
