The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Police Department will hold its annual Employee Appreciation Dinner and Awards Ceremony May 1.

The event will recognize UW Oshkosh employees and those who partner with the department.

This year, UWO alumnus William Robertson ’87, a former student security officer who lost his life in the line of duty while working for the Milwaukee Police Department, will be honored.

Robertson served the UW Oshkosh community as a radio dispatcher and became one of the first to be cross-trained as a Student Security Officer (now called a Community Service Officer). He worked for the UW Oshkosh Police Department from 1983 to 1986 when he graduated with majors in political science and criminal justice.

He worked at the Whitefish Bay Police Department for a number of years until he moved on to the Milwaukee Police Department, where he served until 1994 when he was killed in the line of duty.

The University Police Department is changing the name of  its Community Service Officer of the Year Award to the William Robertson Community Service Officer of the Year Award to honor Robertson’s memory and time of service with the department.

Robertson’s wife, daughter, mother and brothers will be recognized at the ceremony.

The award will be displayed in the University Police Department lobby.

At the ceremony, other awards also will be given.
