The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, book and lyrics by Rachel Sheinkin, music and lyrics by William Finn and directed by Bryan Vandevender, runs 7:30 p.m. April 28 through April 30 and 2 p.m. May 1 at the Fredric March Theatre.

Six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by adults who just barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a hilarious musical tale of overachievers’ angst that chronicles the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship title of a lifetime.

This unlikely musical about the unlikeliest of heroes is a quirky, but charming piece that celebrates a group of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time. Contains mature language.
