Three student playwrights were selected as winners of the 18th Annual Student Playwriting Contest: Connor Dziedzic, of Lake-in-the-Woods, Ill., Amanda Cartwright, of Wild Rose, and Megan Lemire, of Mount Horeb. Each student submitted an original one-act play written in plays cript format.

“Each of the plays attempts to reckon honestly with very real problems of living and dying,” said Richard Kalinoski, UW Oshkosh theatre professor and director.

Dziedzik’s play concerns a young man grieving for a friend who discovers an unusual path to recovery.

Cartwright’s play is about a sister and brother trying to discover a way to follow their mother’s dying wishes to end mother’s life support.

Lemire’s play examines the struggle of a daughter and her parents to find truth and meaning after the mysterious death of the family’s other daughter.

A public reading of the three plays will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 in the experimental theatre of the Fredric March Theatre Building. The public readings will be directed by Richard Kalinoski.
