Growing Oshkosh VolunteersTwice each year, nearly 250 University of Wisconsin Oshkosh students donate their time to give back to the Oshkosh community through the semi-annual Hands on Oshkosh program.

The student-run Hands on Oshkosh program organizes UW Oshkosh students, faculty and staff volunteers into teams to work on projects throughout the Oshkosh community on a Saturday in October and one in April.

The spring Hands on Oshkosh is scheduled for Saturday, April 16. Students can sign-up online at reeve.uwosh.edu/involvement/volunteerism starting Tuesday, April 5.

“Hands on Oshkosh is a great way to connect the students to the community,”said Nicole Bellcorelli, volunteerism program adviser at UW Oshkosh. “Students get a chance to get off campus, see more of Oshkosh and find places they may be interested in continuing to volunteer.”

This spring, the students will be volunteering at Calvary Lutheran Church, Clarity Care, Court Tower Apartments, Father Carr’s Place 2B, Growing Oshkosh, Habitat Restore, Oshkosh Community YMCA Downtown, Oshkosh Parks Department, Peace Christian Preschool, Peace Lutheran Church, River East Neighborhood Association, Riverside Park, Smith Elementary, South Park Middle School, Stevens Park Neighborhood Association, UW Oshkosh Head Start, Washington Elementary School and Winnebago Audubon Society.

“It is really impactful to see the great connections we have made with local agencies over the years due to our dedicated and hard working students,” said Emily Ruck, a senior majoring in social work.

In past semesters, service projects have included organizing classrooms to enhance the experience for students, brightening the paint of an agency’s walls for a more welcoming area and taking on an agency’s yard work so their employees can continue to focus on their internal success.
