Experience the “Spring” Sonata by Beethoven and sophisticated trios by Schumann and Brahms in the upcoming University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Faculty Chamberre concert.

The concert—featuring four UW Oshkosh musicians—will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Arts and Communications Music Hall. Tickets are on sale now; $6 for general admission, $4 for non-UW Oshkosh students, $1 or children 12 and younger and free for UW Oshkosh students with a student ID.

The concert will feature Yuliya Smead on violin, Miyoko Grine on cello, Bruce Atwell on horn and Eli Kalman on piano.

Kalman said the concert is exciting for a couple of reasons. Notably, it’s the first public appearance as part of a University ensemble for Smead since she joined UW Oshkosh as an adjunct faculty member.

“Yuliya is one of the most popular and well-established teachers in the Fox Valley. It is such a pleasure to have her join us here at UW Oshkosh,” Kalman said. “We’re happy she is here on campus and excited about the tremendous opportunities this will offer our students.”

Kalman said the concert is collaborative in many aspects and offers faculty members the chance to share their musicianship with colleagues.

“The concert is for the sake of good music—loving music for what it is,” Kalman said. “It’s also an opportunity to have a really good time on stage.”

Smead, the UW Oshkosh music department’s newest musician, a cum laude recipient of a doctorate in violin performance and pedagogy from M.Lycenko Lviv State National Academy of Music, (Ukraine) brings with her a wealth of experiences. She is a celebrated violinist in the area, serving as the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra concertmaster and also as concertmaster for several other regional symphony orchestras. She brings worldwide experience as a teacher-artist and  also is a teacher at Lawrence Academy of Music.

“We’re happy to have such a tremendous violinist at UW Oshkosh,” Kalman said of Smead who started teaching classes at the beginning of the spring semester.
