The University of Wisconsin announces the 2016 schedule of exciting hands-on youth programs.

Experience what it feels like to climb a 75–foot firefighter’s ladder, solve the case in a mock crime scene, or produce your own radio show. 

Discover Firefighting

Fire_Science_Camp-65Live the life of a firefighter! Get hands–on experiences by performing tasks and training exercises alongside local firefighters and paramedics. The firefighting exploration program is broken down in to three fantastic programs for middle and high school students.

The academies are held at UW Oshkosh with visits to area fire departments and training facilities.

 

  • Basic Academy: July 19–22, 2016 (9th–12th graders)
  • Advanced Academy: June 19–22, 2016 (9th–12th graders)
  • Middle School Academy: Aug. 14–17, 2016 (6th–8th graders)

 

Examine Environmental Health and Engineering

From the food we eat, to the air we breath. Someone has to make sure it’s safe. Explore how environmental health and engineering scientists protect our environment and public health. Two unique programs offer students a chance to work side by side with environmental health professionals/engineers, while participating in hands–on learning experiences!

The academies are held at UW Oshkosh with visits to local environmental health facilities.

  • Day Academy: April 9, 2016 (7th and 8th graders)
  • A Summer Academy: July 17–20, 2016 (9th and 10th graders)

 

Explore Crime Scene Investigation

CSI Day CampYou see it on TV and the movies…now learn what it’s like in real life! Solve crimes like a real forensic scientist. From fingerprints to shoe impressions, solve mysteries using professional CSI equipment and techniques! Three excellent programs have been developed to give students a well–rounded look at the business of being a crime scene investigator!

The academies are held on the UW Oshkosh Campus and the Fox Valley Technical College Public Safety Training Center.

  • Footwear Impressions: April 30, 2016 (5th and 6th graders)
  • CSI Adventure Academy: Aug. 1–5, 2016 (7th and 8th graders)

 

Experience Radio TV Film

From the voice on the radio, to the person in the producers seat—there are a variety of careers in the radio, television and film industries. Be a star – behind the scenes or in front of it—with our youth programs designed to help you discover your talent!

The academies are held at the UW Oshkosh Campus, Arts & Communications Building.

  • A Day in TV Production: May 21, 2016 (5th and 6th graders)
  • Lights, Camera, Action! (7th, 8th and 9th graders)

 

Investigate Police

Learn what it takes to protect and serve! Law enforcement professionals play an essential role in ensuring the safety of our communities. Get hands–on experiences by performing tasks and training exercises alongside local law enforcement professionals. Two day–long academies, and one week–long summer academy, are sure to offer something for everyone!

All academies are held on the UW Oshkosh campus.

  • All Things Traffic: May 21, 2016 (5th and 6th graders)
  • A Summer Academy: Aug. 8–12, 2016 (7th and 8th graders)
