South African activist and award-winning playwright Ian Fraser will visit the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh for the opening night performance of his plays, “Dogs of the Blue Gods” and “The Sugar Plum Fairy” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Fredric March Theatre. A reception will follow the production. Fraser also will speak about his work at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 22, prior to the 7:30 p.m. performance of the play that night.

“It’s brilliant that the University has seen things of value in two oddly different but very gentle works of mine,” said Fraser.

Fraser began writing after being conscripted in the South African Defense Force. After two years in the SADF, Fraser began exploring the creative aspect of political commentary and became one of South Africa’s best-known stand-up comedians. In 2006, Fraser relocated to the United States, where he is now a legal resident.
