University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Chancellor Andrew Leavitt will give a special campus update at a series of upcoming alumni events in Wisconsin.

The following events will each be held from 5 to 7 p.m. with the Chancellor’s program set for 5:45 p.m.:  Feb. 17 at the Paine Art Center and Gardens in Oshkosh featuring artwork as well as a presentation by UW Oshkosh alumna Joye Moon ‘84; Feb. 23 at the Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts in Fond du Lac; and May 5 at the UWO Executive MBA Center in Appleton.

Alumni and friends also are invited to a theatre lunch and learn and a series of campus lectures through a partnership between UWO Alumni Relations and Learning in Retirement.

The lunch and learn, to be held on Sunday, Feb. 21, will feature a presentation by Jane Purse-Wiedenhoeft, UWO associate theatre professor, during a plated lunch at Mahoney’s, followed by a 2 p.m. theatre matinee performance of Clybourne Park at the Fredric March Theatre on the UWO campus.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play, Bruce Norris’ satiric comedy deals with race and class in response to Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun. The performance contains mature language. The cost is $30 per person and includes the lunch and the show.

The free lecture series includes The Other Side of Success, a conversation with UW Oshkosh Titans Head Football Coach Pat Cerroni and Rosebush Professor of Theatre Richard Kalinoski about the surprising challenges encountered when an ambitious but historically under-achieving football program finds conspicuous success. The event will be held on Friday, Feb. 5 at 4 p.m., at the UWO Alumni Welcome and Conference Center. Ample parking is available.

Additional faculty lectures will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Sage Hall Room 2232.

  • Session I: Presidential Primary Season XII- Return of Bush and Clinton. David Seimers, chair of the Political Science Department, discusses the presidential primary season and how changes in rules and context have affected the race and speculates about where the presidential selection process may go from here on Thursday, Jan. 28.
  • Session II: Lessons from Lynching. Michelle Kuhl, professor of history, will look at the roots of racism in the legal system by focusing on the phenomenon of lynch mobs and examining how the fight to end mob violence had both successes and failures. This event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 11.
  • Session III: Literary Hits of the 19th Century. Ron Rindo, professor of English, will examine the dazzling period of literary productivity of 1850-1855 with a close look at some of the finest American writing of the 19th century on Thursday, March 10.

 

A final talk about Bemis and the World of Flexible Packaging will be held on Friday, March 18 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in Sage Hall Room 1210.
