The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and the Oshkosh Community YMCA are hosting the 10th Annual Dragonboat Race and Festival on Saturday, Sept.19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Leach Amphitheater.

Since 2006, the Oshkosh Community Dragonboat Race and Festival has been an Oshkosh community event featuring teams of 20 paddlers in 40-foot long canoe-like vessels known as dragon boats.

The Oshkosh Community Dragonboat Race and Festival is a free event featuring the Dragonboat races, as well as free, live entertainment on the main stage at the Leach, family land activities for all ages and food and beverage.

“I hope the campus and Oshkosh Community comes to the Leach Amphitheater to enjoy watching the races, participating in the many family land activities and enjoying the main stage entertainment line-up,” Jeci Casperson, planning committee member, said. “I am looking forward to an amazing event!”

The family land area is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and offers a variety of activities, including body art, caricatures, face painting, inflatables, arts and crafts, carnival games and the Fox Valley Herp Club (live reptile exhibit).

Main Stage entertainment includes a drum performance by Oshkosh Rhythm, Zoozort (Live Animal Show), Jim Lenz (The Magic & Science Guy) and Dan Kirk (The Juggler With the Yellow Shoes). The day concludes with an awards ceremony.

All proceeds from the Oshkosh Community Dragonboat Race and Festival go to the Oshkosh Community Dragonboat Scholarship, a financial-need based scholarship available to Winnebago County residents, and the YMCA Annual Campaign, offering membership assistance to more than 2,400 youth, families and individuals annually.

“The committee is so thankful for our many event sponsors, race participants and community attendees who make the Dragonboat event possible,” Kelly Kramp, planning committee member, said. “I think it is wonderful how this exciting event can continue to give back to residents in Winnebago County.”
