University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Business Dean William Tallon is stepping down after leading the college for five years. In the fall, Tallon will rejoin the College of Business faculty as a member of the department of management and human resources.

Dr. Scott B. Beyer, who is currently the executive director of the Center for Insurance & Risk Management in the College of Business, will serve as interim dean while a national search takes place. Dr. Barbara Rau, who was recently named the associate dean of the College, will assist in the transition.

“Dean Tallon has served the College well during a challenging time for the University,” Chancellor Andrew Leavitt said. “I thank him for his leadership and contributions over the years, including the successful AACSB reaccreditation of the College and the development of the Executive MBA program.”

In his time leading the College, Tallon was also instrumental in the launch of new academic programs such as the Insurance and Risk Management major and the Interactive Web Management program. In addition, he led efforts to expand the University footprint into Appleton with the Appleton Executive Education Center.

“Under Bill’s leadership, the College of Business moved forward in a number of areas: he launched a variety of alumni events and activities; he developed initiatives such as a Business Living and Learning Community and Business Scholars to attract and retain promising business students; he expanded executive education offerings to business leaders from the area and from Germany; and he represented his college and the University through his participation on a variety of community boards and committees,” Provost Lane Earns said.

Earns went on to say he is confident Tallon will take his experience and expertise into the classroom and continue to be a positive force in the education of College of Business students at UW Oshkosh.
