Richard Hammes, a retired professor from the College of Education and Human Services , died July 18, 2015.

Hammes, who was at UW Oshkosh from 1967 to 1995, was instrumental in getting the Department of Educational Leadership developed, College leaders said.

According to Hammes’ obituary: “After achieving his PhD, Dick continued his career at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh as a Professor in the College of Education. Highlights of Dick’s 26 year career at UWO include Principal of the Campus School, host of one of the early cable broadcast academic series – “Seminar on the 70s,” Director of Research, Associate Dean, Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction, Director of the Teacher Corps Project, Coordinator of the Cooperative Program in Educational Administration, Chairperson of the Department of Human Services and Professional Leadership. In addition, he was awarded and completed numerous grants and professional publications, and presented at several national conferences.”

A celebration of Hammes life was held July 23.
