Andrew Schumacher, who works in Gruenhagen Conference Center for the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, has been named the recipient of the July STAR Award.

He was nominated by Marc Nylen, Director of the Gruenhagen Concference Center.

Portions of Andrew’s nominations follow:

“Andy Schumacher serves as the Front Desk Manager and EAA/OPE Guest Reservations Manager within Gruenhagen Conference Center on the UW Oshkosh campus. On a daily basis, Andy has demonstrated a commitment to excellence; a dedication to the outstanding service of our GCC students and other conference guests; and a desire to be an outstanding ambassador of good will on behalf of UW Oshkosh.

“We host the EAA AirVenture Guest Lodging Program on the UW Oshkosh campus, and Andy is responsible for the complete oversight, management and coordination of this program which brings more than 4,500 lodging guests to UW Oshkosh for a 12 night period during EAA. Andy is exceptional in the management of this program, and it is obvious in the feedback and comments we receive regarding his performance from our guests that he is truly making an impact on their lives. He serves the needs of both domestic and international guests, and I had the opportunity to personally interact with many of them during EAA this year. At least 20 guests specifically brought up Andy’s name and stated how well he had treated them and looked after their lodging needs.  It is clear that Andy excels in his employment position within conference services at UW Oshkosh.

“Andy is also responsible for the coordination of the 36th Annual Oshkosh Placement Exchange. This huge convention welcomes 1,200 guests to our campus from 45 states, and is a household name in the field of student affairs placement conferences. Andy serves as one of our travel ambassadors, and thus travels to five different conferences each fall in order to serve in this very important role! He is, again, exceptional in this role. He approaches the recruitment of both employers and candidates with a sense of purpose, and a vigor that is unparalleled. In doing so, he quickly gains the trust and respect of the guests with whom he is interacting. This role is one of the most important in his position description, as the Oshkosh Placement Exchange is such an important part of the fabric and history of GCC, the Department of Residence Life and the entire UW Oshkosh community.

“For these reasons, I believe that Andy Schumacher is most deserving of the STAR Award on the UW Oshkosh campus, and I wholeheartedly support his nomination.”
