University of Wisconsin Oshkosh alumnus Steve Boettcher ’82, a native of Appleton, won an Emmy award for his cultural documentary The Frozen Chosen at the 56th Annual Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards on Nov. 1.

The documentary features two Fond du Lac families that have a long tradition of spearfishing onLake Winnebago. Boettcher spent more than two decades working on the film, which originally premiered  in Fond du Lac in February.

Boettcher’s current work includes producing and directing PBS’s national series Pioneers of Television. His other television projects include productions for History Channel, Discovery Channel, BBC, CBS and NBC.
