You know the story and, probably, the chant… “RU-DY, RU-DY, RU-DY…”

Rudy Ruettiger, the Notre Dame football alumnus whose perseverance and single play in a 1974 game transformed him into a national motivational speaker and the subject of a 1993 major motion picture, will speak at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh on Nov. 12.

Ruettiger’s appearance is part of the Veterans Week lineup of events on campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Ruettiger has become one of the nation’s most sought-after motivational speakers, given his drive to become a Notre Dame football player against the odds. His college career lasted just one game. As his biography touts, “as fans cheered RU-DY, RU-DY, he sacked the quarterback in the last 27 seconds of the only play in the only game of his college football career. He is the only player in the school’s history to be carried off the field on his teammates’ shoulders.”
