Marjorie Carlson, program assistant for University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Lifelong Learning and Community Engagement, has been named the recipient of the November STAR Award.

She was nominated by Linda Hammer (Academic Adviser) and Katherine Chase-Carstens (Pre-Adviser), from Lifelong Learning and Community Engagement.

Portions of Marjorie’s nomination follow:

“There are few people who stand out as highly committed, skilled, and always a delight to work with, but Marjorie is one of those unique individuals who possesses all of these qualities and more. She has a non-stop work ethic and can be depended upon to fulfill her duties with the highest quality. She maintains a calm and pleasant nature even in fluctuating levels of activity and stress. Her team building skills are outstanding.

“Marjorie always provides the best service possible to staff and students alike, remaining sensitive to anticipate their needs and going the extra mile to assure that they are addressed in a timely manner.  Marjorie completed the 2012-2013 Leadership Series through UWO Oshkosh which included conflict, civility, communication, diversity and work life balance. The Series helped her to grow her leadership skills on campus and in the Oshkosh community. During the past year, Marjorie accepted supervisory responsibilities for a student worker in our department who participated in the Student Titan Employment Program. She completed supervisory training sessions so that she could oversee the search & screen and hiring process, as well as ongoing supervision of the student.

“Currently, Marjorie is the main “Triage” person for our pre-advising and advising unit. She utilizes higher-level critical thinking to assess incoming inquiries via email, phone and walk-in so that they can be directed to the correct pre-advisor for our various online degree programs. She maintains accurate records of all activities and contacts.

“In addition to her regular duties at UWO, Marjorie serves on the University Services Development and Appreciation Day Marketing committee and she is a member of the Civility Works group at UWO.”
