The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Office of Continuing Education will offer three residential fire science career exploration camps this summer.

A Basic Co-ed Camp, an Advanced Co-ed Camp and the GO! (Gals Only) Camp will give participants a variety of opportunities that explore careers and skills required in fire and emergency response services.

All three camps will be held on the UW Oshkosh campus with off-campus field experiences at fire departments and training facilities. Through a combination of instruction and hands-on application, campers will participate in a variety of activities that present a realistic view of fire service careers.

Participants are organized into teams that consist of engine companies, battalions, ladder companies and rescue units. All activities are taught by professional firefighters. Scholarships are available for all camps.

  • The Basic Co-ed Camp will take place June 27-July 1 and is open to young men and women ages 15 to 20 at any level of experience and knowledge of fire and emergency response services. The fee is $250, which includes all activities, meals and residence hall room
  • The GO! (Gals Only) camp will be held July 11-15 and is open to young women ages 15-20 at any level of experience. The fee is $250, which includes all activities, meals and residence hall room. In addition to the standard programming, participants in the GO! Camp will have the special opportunity to network with area female firefighters.
  • The Advanced Co-ed Camp will be held July 18-22 and is open to young men and women ages 15-20, who have participated in a previous UW Oshkosh Basic or GO! Camp. Individuals who currently serve or have served as a fire department intern or belong to a fire science explorer program are also permitted to attend the Advanced Camp with advisor or fire chief’s signature. The camp fee is $300, which includes all activities, meals and residence hall room.
