A group of 21 University of Wisconsin Oshkosh faculty members and administrators attended and presented at the UW System President’s Summit on Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Held in Madison from April 29 to May 1, the summit highlighted work from across UW System, encouraging discussion and the exchange of ideas among faculty and staff from all 26 UW campuses and UW-Extension.

Presentation topics ranged from creativity in the higher education classroom to the effectiveness of podcasting lectures. The event brought together different voices on System-wide initiatives, such as inclusive excellence, with the overarching goal of improving student learning.

Participants chose from more than 120 presentations during the three-day conference, with poster sessions held in the evenings to showcase scholarly teaching research from all disciplines. The President’s Summit was a time for faculty, staff and administrators to break out of the “silos” of their own campuses and engage in the larger vision of the Wisconsin idea.

A creative highlight of the summit was a presentation by First Wave Spoken Word and Hip Hop Theatre Ensemble, a UW-Madison student group that dances, sings, acts, and performs slam poetry.
