Assistant Vice Chancellor for Curricular Affairs and Student Academic Achievement Carleen Vande Zande will represent UW System on a national panel at a General Education Conference, sponsored by the University of California System, on May 3.

The panel will address challenges such as shrinking public support, rapidly changing workforce needs, student demographics and accelerating transfer, all of which demand a more engaging, focused and purposeful general education curriculum.

The conference is part of a 24-state initiative organized by Education Trust and the National Associate of System Heads to answer President Obama’s call for a more educated citizenry. Sessions will emphasize student engagement and curricular coherence. Vande Zande also will participate in a national discussion about the Give Students a Compass Project, which seeks to infuse high-impact educational practices into lower-division general education to benefit the historically underserved students.
