Several students and faculty members from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s human kinetics and health education department recently attended a national convention for the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) in Indianapolis.

The convention allowed the students and faculty to give presentations and receive awards for their displays of distinctive leadership, meritorious service, being a positive role model and professional development. Students Tim Czajka, Sarah Kichefski, Tim Petri and Jessie Scheer presented their research titled “Triathlons: Upper Elementary through College.” Scheer also was chosen to represent UW Oshkosh as the 2010 Outstanding Major of the Year.

Student Amie Heinzelman received two awards at the conference: the Midwest District Outstanding Student Award and the Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship.

AAHPERD’s mission is to promote and support creative, healthy and active lifestyles. The annual national conference is the largest convention for health, physical education, recreation and dance professions and students in the country.
