This day in UW Oshkosh history – Jan. 14, 1847: Rose Swart, a long-time Oshkosh faculty instructor, is born in Honesdale, Pa. Joining the Oshkosh Normal School in 1871 – the school’s first year – as the Primary Department teacher, Swart later became the first woman president of the Wisconsin Teachers’ Association in 1897. She also became the first Dean of Women at Oshkosh State Normal School, holding the position from 1918 to 1922. Swart Hall bears her name. (Courtesy of UW Oshkosh Archives)
