Connie Whittaker, Religious Studies and Anthropology academic department associate, has been named recipient of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh January 2013 STAR Award.

Whittaker was nominated by Kathleen E. Corley. Portions of her nomination follow.

“Ms. Whittaker deserves this award for bringing initiative and clear anticipation of faculty needs in our department. I have personally found doing my job easier and am able to me more efficient throughout the week due to her superior abilities as a program assistant. Having been a program assistant myself as a graduate student, I am well aware of the challenges with working with a faculty that contains many personalities. Ms. Whittaker deals with all these issues perfectly and runs a tight ship. She is strong, yet sticks up for her own interests in an admirable way that does not disrupt the daily running of the department. This ability takes art and skill.  I find her the easiest program assistant to work with since my coming to UWO in 1992. Further, she has done great work outside of the department, by being a member of the Classified Staff Advisory Council (an elected position), developing a mentoring program for classified staff and having completed a leadership series for Classified Staff. It is an honor to work with her, and I am happy to write on her behalf.”

The CSAC Awards & Recognition Committee submitted this announcement. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to contribute calendar items, campus announcements and other good news to UW Oshkosh Today.
